Punjab Extends Winter Break Until 19 January Amid Severe Cold Wave

A severe cold wave has gripped Pakistan, forcing authorities in Punjab to extend school and college winter vacations until 19 January, reported 24NewsHD. The decision comes as icy winds and dense fog make travel and daily life difficult across the province.

Northern areas, including Babusar Top, Nanga Parbat, Hunza, and Astore, have seen heavy snowfall, with temperatures dropping to -21°C in Hunza and -19°C in Astore. Plains and cities are also feeling the chill, with Karachi recording a minimum of 8°C amid strong north-easterly winds.

Dense fog in Punjab has disrupted traffic on major motorways, including M-2, M-3, M-4, and M-5, prompting authorities to temporarily close several sections to ensure safety. Cities affected by low visibility include Multan, Bahawalpur, Khanewal, Mian Channu, and Rahim Yar Khan.

Motorway Police have advised commuters to avoid unnecessary travel, follow lane discipline, use fog lights, maintain safe distances, and drive slowly. Emergency assistance is available via helpline 130.

The extended winter break aims to protect students from harsh weather while authorities continue monitoring road and city conditions amid the ongoing cold wave.
