Aga Khan University held its 38th Convocation in Pakistan, marking an important moment in its academic history. During this ceremony, 461 students graduated from 18 different degree programmes. At the same event, Princess Zahra Aga Khan was formally installed as the University’s first Pro-Chancellor. This occasion reflected both celebration and responsibility, as the University renewed its promise to serve society through education, health care, and research.
Leadership Message And Vision
In his message, the Chancellor, His Highness the Aga Khan, reminded graduates that they carry a great responsibility and a great opportunity. He emphasised that knowledge should not only be created but also shared and applied to improve the quality of human life. This message highlighted the University’s long-standing mission of combining excellence with service.
Princess Zahra Aga Khan, in her new role, spoke about the University’s growing presence across Pakistan. From large cities to remote villages, AKU professionals are now part of everyday life in many regions. Her vision focuses on expanding access while maintaining high academic and ethical standards.
Growth In Education And New Programmes
This year was special because the first group from the Bachelor of Education programme graduated. This programme blends classroom learning with practical field experience. It prepares future teachers to work in different school environments and to meet modern educational challenges.
The University’s expansion into more areas of Pakistan has helped bring quality education closer to students who previously had limited access.
Commitment To Gender Equality
Nearly 70 per cent of the graduating class were women. This shows a strong effort to reduce the gender gap in a country where many girls are still unable to attend school. By supporting female students, the University is helping to build a more balanced and inclusive society.
Valedictorian Muhammad Taha Nasim thanked the faculty for teaching not only excellence, but also empathy. He reminded fellow graduates that success without kindness has little value.
Research, Workforce, And National Impact
AKU graduates are filling important gaps in the health and education sectors. Many alumni now hold leadership roles in nursing and midwifery schools across the country.
In 2025, the University secured more than 100 million dollars in research funding. Twenty-seven faculty members were ranked among the top scientists globally, showing strong international recognition of AKU’s research quality.
Financial Support And Awards
To help talented students from low-income backgrounds, the University provided financial assistance to 72 per cent of students in the last academic year. Several students received Best Graduate Awards in medicine, nursing, education, and dental hygiene. Faculty members were also honoured for their long service and leadership.
