All education boards in Punjab have announced a major increase in examination fees. This decision has been taken due to a serious financial shortfall faced by the board. However, the new fees have created strong concern among students, parents, and private school associations. Many believe that the added charges will make education more expensive and difficult for middle- and low-income families.
Reason Behind The Fee Hike
Officials say that the boards are facing financial problems and need more funds to manage examination arrangements. To cover these costs, several new charges have been added, and some existing fees have been increased. The boards have also introduced a new CCTV camera installation fee for examination centers, even though many centers already have such systems in place.
New And Increased Charges
Under the revised structure, a new miscellaneous fee of Rs. 900 has been added. The certificate fee has been increased from Rs. 550 to Rs. 1,000. A CCTV fee of Rs. 30 has also been introduced. In addition, processing, admission, and registration fees have all been raised. These combined changes have significantly increased the total amount students must pay.
Total Fee For FA And FSc Candidates
After adding all new charges and taxes, private candidates appearing in FA and FSc annual examinations will now pay Rs. 7,730. Regular students will pay Rs. 7,570. This increase has placed a heavy financial burden on families, especially those with more than one child appearing in board exams.
Revised Fee Structure For Intermediate Exams 2026
The intermediate annual examinations are scheduled to begin on May 20, 2026. Below is the revised fee structure announced by the boards:
| Fee Type | Amount (Rs.) |
|---|---|
| Admission Fee | 1,000 |
| Registration Fee | 1,000 |
| Processing Fee | 1,000 |
| Certificate Fee | 1,000 |
| Miscellaneous Fee | 900 |
| CCTV Fee | 30 |
| Development Charges | 350 |
| Scholarship Fee | 250 |
| Postal Charges | 300 |
In addition, admission fees for intermediate students have been fixed as follows:
- Regular Arts: Rs. 1,700
- Regular Science: Rs. 1,740
- Private Arts: Rs. 1,800
- Private Science: Rs. 1,900
Reaction From Private School Associations
Several private school associations have strongly rejected the fee increase. Their leaders said that examination halls already have CCTV cameras, so students should not be charged for them. They also called the Rs. 900 miscellaneous fee unfair and described the increase in certificate and processing fees as excessive. According to them, students should not be forced to pay for the board’s financial problems.
Expected Revenue And Public Concerns
Officials estimate that the revised fees will help education boards in Punjab collect up to Rs. 15 billion. While this may help the boards manage their expenses, students and parents fear that such increases will discourage education and increase dropout rates. Many are demanding that the government review the decision and provide relief to students.
Conclusion
The massive increase in examination fees by all Punjab boards has created serious concern across the education sector. While boards claim financial difficulties, students and private school associations believe the new charges are unjust. There is now strong public pressure on authorities to reduce the burden and ensure that education remains affordable for all.
